JORDAN Henderson is desperate to help Liverpool end more than 15 years of Wembley hurt.
The Reds haven’t played there since May 1996 – when Henderson was just five – as they lost the FA Cup Final 1-0 to Manchester United.
But they are now just two games away from ending that wait after dumping Chelsea out of the Carling Cup 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday to reach the last four.
There have been numerous trips to Cardiff for big games while Wembley was being redeveloped. But so far a return to the national stadium has eluded them.
“I’m surprised it’s been so long. I didn’t know that. For such a big club like Liverpool, you’d have thought we’d have been at Wembley since then. But I’m sure it won’t be long before we’re at Wembley again. We’ve got a two-leg tie to come and it won’t be easy.
“But if we put in the right attitude and commitment into the game then I’m sure we can come away with good results.
Manager Kenny Dalglish was fuming that his side were forced to face Chelsea just 48 hours after their Premier League clash with leaders Manchester City.
But Henderson, one of four players to start both games, insisted he had no problems with the demanding schedule.
And the midfielder hopes his willingness to play wherever and whenever will boost his chances of becoming a first-team regular.
“I might have felt a little tired in the last 10 minutes but I was fine and I’m sure that the rest of the lads were too. The manager made changes, but I don’t think it was a weaker team. The players deserved to be out there and they took their chance, so it will be interesting to see in the next game what squad he picks.
“I’ve played a lot in central midfield and people might say that’s my best position. But I’ve played in numerous positions since I’ve been at Liverpool. You have to fight for your place every week and I’m happy to be playing anywhere for Liverpool. I’m lucky enough to be in the team and I just have to keep on doing my best .”
